Travel a bit for some good times

Here's what's on tap for the weekend of June 17:

Musical train

“Great Balls of Fire” opens the summer musical series at the Bristol Riverside Theatre, 120 Radcliffe St., Bristol, beginning this evening and running through June 26. Single tickets start at $33 and are available by calling (215) 785-0100 or visiting www.brstage.org.
On the grass
Enjoy an “Evening on the Green” at the Daniel Boone Homestead, 400 Daniel Boone Road, Birdsboro, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Visitors will be able to experience some of the leisure activities the Boones and other colonial American families would have, as well as take a candlelit guided tour of the Boone House. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for youth. This is a rain or shine event.

Celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday in Cape May and bring dad to the Cape May Lighthouse and World War II Lookout Tower for a free climb courtesy of the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC). Dads can climb 199 steps to the top of the 1859 Cape May Lighthouse for the best view on Cape Island or relive Cape May’s homeland defense efforts during the war years with a climb to the top of the World War II Lookout Tower. The Cape May Lighthouse is in Cape May Point State Park, Lower Township.

The Allentown Symphony Hall, 23 North 6th Street, will show Piccini’s “Madama Butterfly” on Wednesday, June 22, as part of the Summer HD Encores, a series of screenings from the groundbreaking Live in HD series. Tickets range from $10-$17. Visit www.allentownsymphony.org.
Sweet sounds
The Fabulous Thunderbirds will perform at the Musikfest Cafe by Yuengling, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, on Tuesday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m. Little Buddy will be the opening act. Tickets are $32 for cabaret seating and $39 for the balcony. Visit www.artsquest.org.
Monkee around
American heartthrobs Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork are joining together yet again as The Monkees 45th Anniversary Tour kicks off this summer. Tickets are now on sale for the group’s performance at the Mt. Laurel Pocono Mountains Performing Arts Center, Bushkill, on Saturday, September 10 at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $35-$79.
