A summer weekend

Laid back, man
The West Coast rock sound, according to American Music Theatre's new show "California Soul," includes the sounds of The Eagles, Crosby Stills & Nash, The Beach Boys and The Grateful Dead. Women aid women

Concerts for a Cure presents MaryBeth Hammer and Heidi Winzinger under the stars from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pomeroy Heights Manor, 3 Washington Lane, Coatesville. Proceeds go toward HPV and cervical cancer related programing. Tickets are $20 and include a light dinner. Sporting chance

The Philadelphia Cup, a polo match sponsored by the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce, will be held Sunday at Brandywine Polo, 232 Polo Road, off Route 1 at the Toughkenamon exit (south of Kennett Square). The event will benefit the World Children Foundation. Tickets cost $40 for and can be purchased at www.sacc-philadelphia.org. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. with light fare, followed by a brief orientation to the game of polo at 2:15 p.m. The match begins at 3 p.m.

High road or low?

The Celtic Fling and Highland Games take place Friday night with the pre-Fling concert at 7 p.m. (gates open at 5). Saturday and Sunday's hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. It's held on the grounds of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, off Route 72, Cornwall. Friday concert tickets are $19.95. Celebrating summer

The newest exhibit at the DaVinci Science Center, 3145 Hamilton Boulevard Bypass, Allentown, is "Cool Moves." On view through Sept. 6, "Cool Moves" fosters an appreciation for the beauty of motion that takes place around you every day. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. With 14 hands-on experiences, the exhibit takes the visitor on an exploration of how motion can be characterized in terms of translation or rotation; continuous or vibrating; and predictable or unpredictable. Explore dining scene

Bethlehem Restaurant Week runs June 28-July 4. No passes, tickets or coupons are required. Instead, diners may simply visit their favorite participating restaurants throughout the week to enjoy the special prix fixe lunch and dinner menus. Party on the deck

From 5 to 8 p.m. today, the top level of the parking deck at Eighth and Linden streets, Allentown, will be transformed into a party destination, featuring live music by UUU, local artists, entertainment by local comedians from the Associated Mess and food. Cost is $15 for the ages 21+ event. The first 250 guests to arrive will receive gift bags.

Dad's special day

- Lancaster County invites you to take a road trip with dad this weekend or anytime throughout the summer.

On way to Cape May

Saturday is Harbor Fest in Cape May, N.J., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join in a celebration of seafood and song, the sea, its culture, and its ecology on Cape May's harbor. Highlights include seafood, live music, cooking demonstrations, arts and craft vendor, marine educational programs, a blessing of the fleet, a kayak and canoe regatta, and more. The rain date is Sunday.

Also, Friday through Jan. 2, Cape May's sixth annual Designer Show House will showcase the region's top designers and suppliers on the first floor and grounds of the Fairthorne Cottage at Ocean and Hughes streets. There will be daily self-guided tours that can be combined with lunch and dinner packages and special events. It's open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily and 7 to 9 p.m. Sundays to Fridays. What makes it 'gold'?

Musical theater

Old ways alive

Artifest 2010 marks the Museum of Indian Culture's 30-year anniversary from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The museum is at 2825 Fish Hatchery Road, Allentown. Meet artists and tradition bearers from diverse Native American groups. There will be music and dance, tomahawk throwing, primitive technologies such as flint knapping, pottery making and fire starting and a children's hands-on craft area. Refreshments will be available. Drum Corps show

Drum Corps International begins its season with a show at 8 p.m. Friday at J. Birney Crum Stadium, 2027 W. Linden St., Allentown. March out

The annual March-out of the Continental Army will be commemorated from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Valley Forge National Historical Park. Rangers and volunteers will host a living history encampment at the Park's Muhlenberg Brigade area, Route 23 West and North Gulph Road. Cannons will fire at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The event will also include a bake oven demonstration.

Home of the brave

- The Delaware Valley Vietnam Veterans' 25th annual Donald W. Jones Flag Memorial weekend features a free concert Saturday, a motorcycle rally Sunday, and moments for reflection both days, in Falls Township Park, 9072 Mill Creek Road. The concert with Angry Vic, Band Kamp, Blue Reign, Classic Jurassic, Final Warning, Jayded, Jekyll's Hyde, Legend, Mikey Junior and Queen Helene starts at noon Saturday. Hagley's Creek Kids presents "Gunpowder in American History" from 1 to 4 p.m. June 15 and 20 at Hagley Museum and Library, Route 141, Wilmington, Del. The days will feature activities such as 19th century marching and drilling exercises, making "funpowder" (edible black powder), and decorating gunpowder kegs. A saluting cannon will be fired at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Families can sign up for an apprenticeship in the machine shop and try riveting, making a medallion, and threading a hole. In the Powder Yard, enjoy homemade ice cream (cranked on site) and scones baked in the Gibbons House kitchen. The Creek Kids will also lead walking tours of the gunpowder-making dioramas in the Millwright Shop.
